Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) Assessments

September 2014

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We will be administering the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) Assessments in reading and mathematics to all students in grades 1-5 two times per year for all students and three times per year for selected students. The fall testing administration window began on September 22nd and ends on October 22, 2014.

A few weeks after testing, you will receive a score report that has your child’s overall score in reading and mathematics, as well as scores in a variety of other areas.  MAP assessments measure a student’s growth over time in reading and mathematics.  MAP assessments let teachers know where a student’s strengths are and if help is needed in specific instructional areas.  Teachers use this information, along with the results of a variety of other assessments and their own observations of student performance, to help them guide classroom instruction.

If you have additional questions, please see the school system’s website at http://www.hcpss.org/academics/testing/ or you can contact Ms. Nickles, our School Accountability Coordinator and Assistant Principal, or myself.

The MAP Testing Schedule

Second grade – October 6, 7, 9, and 10

Third grade – October 13, 14, 15, and 16
